Getting Started

Operating a mini loader for the first time can feel daunting. Follow this MarKay Outdoors guide and you’ll be confident in minutes.

These tips apply to the 5, 6, 7 & 8 Series Kanga-style loaders (note: 2 Series controls differ slightly). Always read the operator’s manual for your specific model.

Pre-Start Safety & Checks

  • Wear PPE: steel cap boots, safety glasses, gloves, and ear protection when required.
  • Check fuel, engine oil, and hydraulic oil levels. Ensure the fuel cap is tight.
  • Inspect the air filter pre-cleaner and clear any debris.

Pro tip: Do a quick walk-around to spot leaks, loose pins, or damaged hoses before you start.

Starting the Mini Loader

  1. Step onto the operator platform and hold the handlebars.
  2. Set the throttle to low.
  3. Insert key and turn to glow (diesel). When the green light turns off, start the engine.
  4. Increase throttle to a steady working RPM.

Know Your Controls

Bucket & Arms

  • Far Left Lever: 4-in-1 bucket jaws — push open, pull close.
  • Left Centre Lever: Loader arms — pull up, push down.
  • Far Right Lever: Bucket tilt — push tip down, pull crowd back.

Drive & Steer

  • Two Centre Levers: Drive/steer — both push forward; both pull reverse.
  • Turn by easing one lever more than the other. For a spin, push one and pull the other.

Attachments (Aux)

  • Auxiliary Lever: pull = forward/clockwise, push = reverse.
  • With an auger, lower arms slowly while drilling; reverse to clear debris.
